space to take advantage of the larger exterior dimensions;heighten comfort and
convenience through improved equipment; maintain a high level of occupant safety;
achieve higher quality throughout; and maximize driver-oriented ergonomics for a
Materials And Fit
In trimming the interior, Legend designers emphasized high quality and careful
matching. All thick-molded plastic components such as the instrument panel, console
edges, door ledges and steering wheel are produced by the same manufacturing
method (slush moulding). Their PVC outer surfaces are uniform in color and texture.
Leather seating surfaces and door panel inserts are standard on both Coupe
models. The LS model features burled walnut on the center console and door
armrests. The walnut is the top layer of a complexveneer construction designed to
achieve a three-dimensional look. The L model receives a new simulated wood
Both Coupe models receive upgraded audio systems for 1993. On L Coupe models the Acura/Bose® Music Systemis standard equipment. In LS models, the Acura/Bose® Premium Music System offers extraordinary performance. In this system, each of the eight speakers has its own built-in Bose® switching amplifier module for outstanding acoustic reproduction.
All Legend radio units incorporate an anti-theft feature which provides the
owner with an individual code which must be re-entered if the unit is ever
disconnected from its power source.
Instruments And Controls
The instrument panel presents the driver with large analog dials for the speedometer, tachometer, temperature and fuel gauges. Primary steering column-mounted controls for lighting, wipers and washers followan ergonomically logical arrangement. Thecruise control and stereo volume/channel selector are actuated from the steeringwheel itself.
Climate Control Stystems
The Legend LS Coupe features a standard Automatic Climate Control System with full manual override. The L model features standard air conditioning. Both feature an environmentally safe non-CFC system. For 1993, refinements in both models promote quicker cool-down when the system is first activated.
Dual Air Bag Supplemental Restraint System (SRS)
All 1993 Legend models include a driver's and passenger's side air bag Supplemental Restraint System (SRS). The passenger's side air bag system has some unique features. Mounted in the top of the instrument panel's right side, it is made of the same material as the driver's air bag in the NSX sports car and still allows room for an ample glove compartment.
The inflation of the passenger's side SRS air bag proceeds first upward, then
rearward; once fully inflated the bag has a volume of 150liters/5.3cu ft and is almost two feet tall.
Each air bag has its own gas generator, but the two are connected in parallel
and deploy simultaneously in response to the SRS sensor system at impact speeds the equivalent of a 10-mph frontal barrier crash or greater. All electrical connectors in the SRS system are gold-plated for optimum conductivity and corrosion resistance.
Automatic Seat Belt Tensioners And Three-Point Seat Belts
The 1993 Legend Coupe models incorporate an innovative tensioner system on the front seat belts. This system, triggered by the air bag sensors and computer,
automatically takes up slack in the belts in the initial phase of a frontal impact,
helping to hold the occupants securely. All outboard 3-point belts incorporate a
direct clamping mechanism as well. Each belt reel has its own deceleration sensor
working with an internal cam-and-ratchet mechanismto clamp the belt near its exit
from the reel, substantially limiting the "spool-out" that can occur as a loaded belt
tightens on a locked reel.
