The following glossary provides a comprehensive summary of features, benefits, design enhancements as well as Honda exclusives for all Honda Marine 4-stroke outboard engine models. 2-Pass Cooling System maintains an even temperature on all cylinders, resulting in increased cooling efficiency and long-term durability. (BF200, BF225)

3 to 3 induction system, the lightweight, compact design with one carburetor per cylinder provides instant throttle response and increased fuel efficiency. The design is more responsive than competitive throttle bodies with long intake runners. (BF25, BF30, BF40, BF50)

3-Way Cooling System, the first individual controlled cooling system for outboard engines, reduces engine heat, allowing the cylinder head to run slightly cooler than the cylinder block, which greatly reduces engine wear. (BF135, BF150)

4-Front Corrosion Protection System, a double-sealed multi-layer patented paint process, fights off corrosion from harsh marine environments. The base is a Honda aluminum alloy, followed by a double sealed treatment, an epoxy primer undercoat, and an acrylic resin metallic coating, finished with a clear overcoat of acrylic. (BF2 - BF225)

4 to 4 Induction, the fuel-efficient 4-cylinder, 4-carburetor design, utilizes one carburetor per cylinder and is more compact and responsive than one large throttle body and long intake runner. On-demand, belt-driven 60-amp Alternator reduces heat build-up, keeping the starting and dual-purpose battery banks charged all day, even if the vessel is running multiple accessories. Centrifugal Clutch is like having a neutral position. It maintains a smooth idle until the throttle is advanced above idle speed. Then it automatically engages the prop. (BF2)

Dual Stage Induction System, a Honda exclusive, uses a plenum chamber with twin butterfly valves for low speed drivability and high-speed performance. At low speeds, air passes through a long intake runner, increasing low-end torque. At more than 3,500 rpm, shutter valves open to shorten the air's path, boosting air flow for higher horsepower. Dual Overhead Cam (DOHC) Technology is a powerful, compact, 24-valve design that creates more valve lift and greater air flow for higher horsepower. The roller rocker arm generates less friction and wear, resulting in longer engine life. This design, unlike traditional DOHC designs, is easy to adjust and contains no complex bucket shims. Engine Alert System monitors vital engine functions and alerts the operator, with a light, buzzer or rpm reduction, of any problems. (BF8 - BF225)

Lean Burn Feedback Control utilizes a Linear Air-Fuel Sensor, along with the Engine Command System, to automatically adjust the air-fuel mix according to speed and load while maximizing power throughout the acceleration range and providing as much as 20 percent greater fuel economy in the cruise mode from 2000 to 4500 rpm. Stainless Steel Steering Arms, Tilt Tubes, and Shafts are made of marine-grade stainless steel for maximum durability. All engine fasteners and hardware are either stainless steel or of a specially treated Dacro material to create a barrier between dissimilar metals, enhancing corrosion protection. A crankshaft-driven, automotive-style Trochoid Pump ensures critical engine component long-term durability.

Tuned Dual Exhaust wraps around the outside of the oil pan, reducing heat build-up and increasing engine efficiency and performance, while the competition's exhaust track goes through the middle of the oil pan, heating the oil. (BF200, BF225)

On its new outboards, Honda offers the best three-year, non-declining factory warranty in the outboard industry. All new Honda outboard engines for recreational use have a limited, 3-year warranty that is the same on the last day as it is on the first.
