1995 Acura Legend- Interior

Overview

In planning the interiors of the Legend Sedan and Coupe, Acura designers wanted to take advantage of the larger exterior dimensions by providing more interior space; heighten comfort and convenience through improved equipment; enhance occupant safety; achieve higher quality throughout and maximize driver-oriented ergonomics for a sporty feel.

Materials and Fit

In trimming the interior, Legend designers emphasized natural materials and careful matching. All thick-molded plastic components -- instrument panel, console edges, door ledges, steering wheel are produced by the same manufacturing method (slush moulding). Their PVC outer surfaces are uniform in color and texture.

In Sedan L models, the upholstery material is moquette. Discreetly gathered leather for seating surfaces and door-panel inserts is standard in the Coupe L, Coupe LS, Sedan LS and Sedan OS models, Leather is optional in the Sedan L model. In leather-equipped models, leather also covers the center-console armrest/compartment lid, steering wheel and shifter knob.

The burled walnut on the LS and OS models' center console and door armrests was chosen for its high quality and dependable supply. The walnut is the top layer of a complex veneer designed to achieve a three-dimensional look. Simulated wood panels are standard on Coupe and Sedan L models.

Audio Systems

The Legend Sedan L and Legend Coupe L models feature an eight-speaker, 50-watt Acura/Bose® Music System with a Bose Signal Processor (BSP) module for enhanced sound quality.

The LS models and the OS model Sedan feature an upgraded, 8-speaker, 200-watt Acura/Bose® Premium Music System which offers truly extraordinary performance. In this system, each speaker has its own built-in Bose switching amplifier module for outstanding acoustic reproduction. The Legend Sedan and Legend Coupe can be equipped with an optional (dealer-installed), trunk-mounted six-disc CD changer.

Instruments and Controls

The instrument panel presents the driver with large analog dials for the speedometer, tachometer, temperature and fuel gauges. Primary steering-column-mounted controls for lighting, wipers and washers follow an ergonomically logical arrangement. The cruise control is actuated from the steering wheel itself.

Driver's Seat and Steering Column Memory Functions

A convenient power tilt and telescopic steering column function is featured on the driver's seat adjustment memory system. The steering column automatically tilts up for ease of entry, and then adjusts, along with the 8-way power driver's seat, to one of two preset positions.

Climate Control Systems

The Legend Sedan LS and OS and the Coupe LS offer an Automatic Climate Control System with full manual override. The L-model Sedan and Coupe feature standard air conditioning. Both feature an environmentally friendly R-134a refrigerant. Both systems are engineered for quiet, efficient operation, and refined to promote quicker cool-down when the system is first activated.

Dual Air Bag Supplemental Restraint System (SRS)

All Legend models include driver's and front passenger's Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) air bags. The passenger's side air bag system has some unique features. Mounted in the top of the instrument panel's right side, it is made of the same material as the air bags in the NSX sports car.

The inflation of the passenger's air bag proceeds first upward, then rearward; once fully inflated, the bag has a volume of 150 liters/53 cu ft and is almost two feet tall, extending over part of the dashboard and windshield.

Each air bag has its own gas generator, but the two are connected in parallel and deploy simultaneously. The air bags are triggered when the SRS sensor system detects an impact speed equal to or greater in force than a 10-mph frontal barrier crash.

All electrical connectors in the SRS system are gold-plated for optimum conductivity and corrosion resistance, resulting in excellent reliability.

Automatic Seat Belt Tensioners and Three-Point Seat Belts

All Legend models incorporate an innovative tensioner system on the front seat belts as part of the SRS. This system, triggered by the air bag sensors and computer, automatically takes up slack in the belts in the initial phase of an impact, helping to hold the occupants securely. All outboard 3-point belts incorporate a direct clamping mechanism as well. Each belt reel has its own deceleration sensor working with an internal cam-and-ratchet mechanism to clamp the belt near its exit from the reel, substantially limiting the "spool-out" that can occur as a loaded belt tightens on a locked reel.
