2001 3.2 TL Drives Acura Line Up With Performance, Luxury, Class-Leading Sales

As the benchmark and sales leader in the near-luxury class for performance, luxury and quality, the Acura 3.2 TL builds on its position and adds refinements for the 2001 model year. The hot-selling, Acura TL has just surpassed the 100,000 sales mark, making it one of the fastest-selling models in Acura history.

"The TL is clearly the best-selling vehicle in its segment," said Dick Colliver, Acura's executive vice president. "It combines all the elements luxury car buyers are looking for including the latest in safety, technology, performance and amenities in a high quality package."

As the sales leader in the Acura line up, the TL has established a reputation for raising the bar in the near luxury class. For 2000, the TL won the prestigious J.D. Power and Associates Initial Quality Survey award for the highest quality in its class. In addition, the TL recently marked its 23rd consecutive month of prior year sales increases.

The TL's power plant provides Acura's renowned levels of environmentally-conscious performance through a race inspired 225-horsepower, all aluminum, VTEC? enhanced V6 engine mated with a 5-speed sequential SportShift automatic transmission. This drivetrain offers exhilarating performance while achieving among the lowest tailpipe emissions levels of any car on the road today. The TL also achieves the very stringent California ULEV and LEV standards for all other states.

The TL continues Acura's safety leadership with Acura's exclusive front-passenger's advanced side air bag system and a dual-stage, front passenger's air bag. The dual-stage inflator varies the deployment power of the front passenger SRS air bag by reducing the rate of inflation depending on impact severity.

To help protect an out of position passenger, the TL employs an exclusive side air bag system in the front passenger's seat. This system includes a series of seven sensors located in the passenger seatback and side bolster, which determine the height and position of the occupant. If a child or small-statured adult is leaning into the side airbag deployment path, the system will not allow the side air bag to deploy.

Changes for 2001 include the addition of carpeted floor mats and an emergency trunk release as standard equipment.

The comprehensively equipped TL offers only one factory option, the Acura Satellite-linked DVD navigation system, which is one of the most sophisticated and user-friendly systems available on the market.

Many of the Acura TL's performance, safety and convenience technologies were designed and engineered at the Honda R&D facilities in the United States. The TL and its coupe sibling the CL were designed and engineered in the U.S. and are assembled in Marysville, Ohio.

Like all Acura models, the 2001 TL is covered by a comprehensive 4-year/50,000 mile bumper-to-bumper limited warranty. Additional ownership benefits include Acura Total Luxury Care (TLC), which provides free 24-hour roadside assistance, concierge service and trip routing.

Acura offers a full line of premium performance vehicles through a nationwide network of nearly 260 dealers. The Acura line-up features six distinctive models including the exotic NSX supercar, the 3.5 RL flagship luxury sedan, the best-selling 3.2 TL luxury performance sedan, the all-new 3.2 CL luxury performance coupe, the fun-to-drive Integra and the revolutionary MDX luxury sport utility vehicle.
